Our view
Why we like the fund:
This fund invests in smaller companies listed in the United States. This requires extensive resourcing because following these companies demands ongoing dialogue with executives and because there are simply lots of them. They are often riskier than their larger counterparts because they may have fewer products or operate in fewer regions. Brown Advisory is based in the US and has an extensive team researching and investing in smaller companies. The manager is also experienced at running a fund like this and US smaller company investing is a strength of the wider business.
How to use the fund:
This fund is likely to require a long investment horizon of ten years or more. This should allow investors to benefit from the rewards that should come from an above-average-risk investment. The fund is a useful addition to a diversified portfolio for investors seeking additional risk and reward in a portfolio.
