Our view
Why we like the fund:
This fund invests globally in companies that own infrastructure assets, such as electric, gas and water utilities, toll roads, railways and airports. These investments tend to have a reliable source of customers who are dependent on them for their daily lives. This creates a fairly steady income stream and one that is usually linked to inflation (therefore providing an inflation hedge). The manager is highly experienced and is supported by a strong team of infrastructure experts.
How to use the fund:
This fund could be a useful addition to a portfolio with an income requirement (with some inflation protection). Because it invests in equities, there can be periods of capital loss. However, because the business models are reliable, these are likely to be temporary for any long-term investor.
